BIENVENIDOS or WELCOME to the Spanish class! All classes are held twice a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Spanish classes in kindergarten through grade 3 last 15 minutes. The fourth graders have Spanish for half an hour. In grades 5-8 classes are 42 minutes in length.
HOMEWORK
- Children in kindergarten through third grade do not have homework
.
- Homework is often given in grades four through eight
.
- Two kinds of homework
a. 5-10 point assignments for daily work.Examples: copYing
vocabulary, coloring, or very short assignments. If a child
does not complete this homework, then he/she will receive
a 0 (unless he/she is absent). This homework can not be
made up.
b. Graded assignments for daily work
.
If the assignment is late, the grade will be lowered 5 points
for each day that it is late unless the child is absent. Then
he/she will h.ave the same numbers of days as he/she was
absent to complete the work.
TESTS
Most tests will be given a double grade. For example, if a child receives 87 on a test, that grade will be entered into the gradebook two times. The children always know if the test will receive a double grade.
FIESTA
Students in grades four through eight will participate in a "mini fiesta" for Day of the Dead, a speciaf religious holiday in Mexico. They will eat pan de muertos, a typical holiday bread from an authentic Mexican bakery.
FIELD TRIP
The eighth graders will visit the Mexican Fine Arts Cultural Center in Chicago to view the exhibit for Day of the Dead. After viewing the altars, they will see sugar skulls being made and also have a chance to buy them. The trip ends with lunch at a Mexican restaurant.
